Brian Regan
Brian Regan is one of the best comedians performing today. His
comedy, big enough for everyone, sharp enough for you, keeps
audiences coming back time and again to see what's new in the comedy
world of Brian Regan.
As a kid, Regan was a huge fan of Johnny Carson but his fascination
with stand-up comedy really kicked in when Steve Martin came on the
scene. It was Martin's silly, but smart, comedic genius that
inspired Regan.
At Heilderberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, Regan began his dream of
becoming a comedian. As a freshman, having fallen so far behind in
his major - accounting- that he knew he could never catch up, Regan
went to his football coach for advice. Knowing Regan was kind of
funny, the coach recommended the Communication and Theater Arts
Department. It was within this world that Regan began his quest for
a career in comedy. From speech class to plays, Regan developed his
love for performing and getting laughs.
In the early 80's, when the Heidelberg years were done, Regan
started performing at a small comedy club in Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida, an hour?s drive from his hometown of Miami. Since he was
just starting, Regan was much more than just a comic - he was a
busboy, a dishwasher, and a cook. Oftentimes, Brian had to wrap up
his shows to flip burgers for the people in the crowd. They might
not have liked those early jokes, but boy did they love those
burgers! Over a two and a half year period, Regan actually became a
better comic than cook. It was time to hit the road.
During the mid-80's, Regan found plenty of work in the booming 80's
comedy world. Clubs like "Giggles" and "Sir Laughs a Lot" welcomed
the budding comic as he traveled about, first by bus, then by car,
then ... by airplane.
In 1986, Regan moved to New York City, where he based himself until
1994. Still hitting the road plenty during those years, Regan used
his time in New York to learn the difference between getting laughs,
and getting good laughs. Regan kept his comedy broad enough to work
anywhere in the country, but interesting enough to make a name for
himself in the demanding New York City scene. The tightrope paid off
when he won $10,000.00 in the K-Rock - Miller Lite Funniest Person
in New York contest in 1988.
From there, all hell broke loose. Regan moved to headliner status
and began nailing down national TV appearances: MTV Half Hour Comedy
Hour, Pat Sajak, Arsenio Hall, and ... every comic's dream - The
Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. By the early 90's, Regan had
developed into one of the best stand-up comedians in the country.
From then until now, Brian Regan's highlights have included his own
specials on both Showtime and Comedy Central, being featured in Coca
Cola's Concession Stand Comedy in movie theaters throughout the
country, regular appearances on both Conan O'Brien and the Late Show
with David Letterman, and opening regularly in the nation's best
theaters for Jerry Seinfeld.
Regan's die-hard fans continue to fill comedy clubs throughout the
country. They know his act is constantly growing, constantly
changing, and constantly challenging. So, just like you might enjoy
the taste of a delicious comedy club burger, please enjoy the comedy
of Brian Regan.
